Settling In

Sometimes the greatest movement forward begins by becoming fully present to where you already are.

An empty rocking chair on a quiet front porch overlooking fields at sunset, inviting reflection after a day's work.

We are built for threat detection.

We are raised to be hypervigilant for success.

We are constantly looking to "plug" our value into life.

Action.

And naturally, there is a season for that.

A season of heat.

A season to pursue.

A season to amplify.

But there is also a season to pause...

...to assess.

How's my crop growing?

How's the soil?

How are my garden rows sustaining in this climate?

What needs more?

What needs less?

What's excessive?

What's deficient?

Settling in is swinging on your front porch after the action and heat of the day have passed...

...and taking stock.

Taking inventory.

How am I, really?

How are my relationships, really?

Where is the concern?

How's my money?

How are my friendships?

How's my creativity?

How's my work, career, or business?

Where am I, really?

Beyond the labours of life, we're eventually invited to settle in and face the realities of those labours.

To look deeply into the terrain of our own life...

...and simply notice.

Depth isn't achieved without settling into both the essence and the facts of our own reality.

That requires thinking.

That requires feeling.

That requires sensing.

For many, that remains an unpracticed way of being.

Settling in means being honest with yourself...

...and honest about where you are.

That's a huge part of flourishing.

Honesty in the here and now.
