When Things Aren’t Going According to Plan

The first question I ask is, did you actually have a plan?

Because the vast majority of people I coach don't.

They are simply reacting to the day.

They respond to whatever the world throws at them, yet they haven't actually written down the steps needed to make something they dream about become reality.

They have ideas.

They have interests.

They have fantasies.

They even have desires.

Yet a plan?

Yikes...not quite.

A plan carries a different kind of energy.

It exists to support a dream or desire.

But if you tried to create a plan for every passing whim, you'd quickly exhaust yourself with a full-time planning job.

"I'd like this...I'd like that...and maybe this..."

If we planned for every one of our likes, it would become overwhelming.

So that begs the question:

If flourishing requires planning, what is truly worthy of your precious time, energy, and resources?

Person sitting in nature and looking across a wide landscape.

Where Things Aren’t Working

What I'd really like you to do is look at one area of your life that isn't working.

Then ask yourself whether the outcome reflects a lack of planning, decision-making, or precision.

You don't put energy into it.

You don't plan around it.

You don't strategize.

You don't intentionally invest in it.

Chances are, you simply stare at it.

You freeze.

You throw your mental wish list at it.

You even talk to other people about how frustrating it is.

And as a side effect, it continues to look the way it looks and feel the way it feels.

So Here's the Simple Shift

Invest some energy into it.

Write down a handful of action steps that would make it better...more manageable...a little more you.

You don't need to transform it into some life-fulfilling fantasy that your mom or dad would be proud of.

You simply need a little more energy.

A little more intention.

A little more planning.

And a little more of you invested in that area of your life.

That's how momentum begins.

Momentum toward a more authentic, flourishing life.

"How do you eat an elephant?"

One bite at a time.

Enjoy your dinner. :)
